Pasta can be a healthy dish when you do not top it with a creamy sauce. Pasta is very nutritional and packed with carbohydrates that can be used as energy if you are into fitness and bodybuilding. While many people that diet think pasta is a bad food it can be a very healthy meal if it is prepared properly.
Here are some helpful hints to make your pasta dinner more nutritional:
Use pasta that is made with grains instead of flour. Some of the pastas without flour include wheat soy quinoa and barley.
The texture of these pastas is different from flour pasta but you will get used to the texture and the new flavor. To get use to the healthy pasta begin by using a half-and-half mixture of the flour pasta and the grain pasta. Gradually reduce the amount of flour pasta as you are more adjusted to the grain pasta.
Use pasta that is enriched with vitamins minerals and omega-3 fatty acids as well as fiber enrichments. The texture of the enriched pasta is similar to the flour pasta so you will be able to adjust to the new enriched pasta faster than the grain pasta.
Think about the type of sauce you are using on the pasta. Use meatless marinara sauces that contain herbs tomatoes mushrooms garlic and peppers. Add vegetables to the sauce such as squash or zucchini or broccoli. Add meats that are low fat such as chicken ground turkey and sausage. Avoid white sauce that is made with cheese which contain a great deal of fat.
Consider avoiding sauces totally. Add chickpeas eggplant and tomatoes to your pasta for a very nutritional low fat meal. If you have to have a sauce sprinkle olive oil on the pasta with a low fat feta cheese.
